For 15-16cm, it could be a tossup. The 40mm was great, actually more comfortable, since it felt like a small/simple watch on the wrist, but the battery was so annoying. The extra screen size and resolution of the 44mm are not a big deal, but the extra battery was a game changer for my use case.
I think using this formula, that an acceptable ratio falls between 4.0 and 5.0. Anything below 4.0 is too big and anything above 5 is too small. Here is an example using a 44mm watch which should be too big for some with smaller wrists. 6.5 inch ( 165 mm) Ratio=3.75 Too big. 7.0 inch (178mm) Ratio=4.0 Just ok- acceptable.
Sep 12, 2018 · Anyway i'll try the 44mm and if doesn't work out I can always exchange for a 40mm. In comparison with the original Series 0, the S4 is actually a tad thicker, 0.2mm or so, but we shouldn't notice that at all. I mean, 0.2mm I'll go for 44 just because of my old bands (for 42mm) that will fit. hobspain.
Somehow I feel like the 44 spreads evenly across my wrist better than the 40 did. I actually upgraded from a 38mm series 2 which I never had problems with though. I think it comes down to the preference of style, smaller looks a little more like a 'normal' watch and the 44 looks a little more like a smart watch.

Sep 12, 2018 · The 40mm Apple Watch is much better (on any wrist < 18cm) to show off your band. All bracelets/bands/straps have much better appearance on a smaller watch. If AW fills entire wrist then the band goes just straight down under the wrist and you can't really see it much.

Look for small to medium diameter watches of 38mm, 40mm, and 42mm. If your wrist circumference is 7.5 to 8 inches – you have a larger wrist. Look for watches with a diameter of 44mm, and 46mm.
